I am writing to announce that I am closing down my Blog site, effective July 8.
The site was originally developed as a way to support the Investing For Retirees Seminars that I was delivering through the National Association of Federal Retirees, Ottawa Branch. However, with Covid 19, the seminars have been cancelled, and I see little chance that they will be resurrected any time soon.
In addition, I find the current stock market and economic situation to be so at odds with each other, that I am at a loss as to what to say. I really have no idea of what we will be facing over the next several years (nor does anyone else, it seems), so better to say nothing.
It is interesting to note however, as a bit of historical context, that stock markets can do very little for a protracted period of time. If one had bought at the market peak in early 2000, one would find themselves at the same level of the S&P 500 13 years later in early 2013, having earned only the dividends of about 2% per year.
I will continue to do a few on line seminars, such as the recently posted “Gold as Portfolio Insurance”. If you would like to continue to receive these occasional presentations, please send an email to InvestingForRetirees@gmail.com and I will add you to the email list.
All the best and good investing.
